Shalom, everyone! For as long as we have been a people, The Almighty has sent among us true prophets but also allowed false prophets to operate. The Almighty sends the true prophet to encourage us to serve only Him, repent of our sins, return to Torah obedience, and warn us of danger ahead. The Almighty allows the false prophet around us to test us to see if we truly love Him with all our being. The following are some key differences between The Almighty‘s true prophets and His false prophets:
I. TRUE PROPHETS
- True prophets will only speak to the people whatever The Almighty commands them, and at the precise time He says to speak. All their predictions come true.
- True prophets will always encourage the people to serve The Almighty faithfully, repent and return to Torah obedience.
- True prophets are often despised by the very people to whom The Almighty has sent them. True prophets will speak the truth regardless of the consequences.
- The Almighty will vigorously defend His true prophets and avenge any injustice committed against them, and reward those who heed the instructions the true prophets have given.
- The Almighty speaks to his true prophets in visions, dreams and/or riddles. Only with Moses did He speak plainly, directly and face-to-face.
II. FALSE PROPHETS
- False prophets will presume to speak in the name of The Almighty but their predictions do not come true.
- False prophets may accurately predict the future BUT will encourage the people to worship a false deity and/or disobey The Almighty’s commandments. The Almighty uses false prophets to test us.
- False prophets are often motivated by material gain (money, position, fame, and prestige). They do not care about the welfare of the people, only what they can take from them.
- More people prefer to listen to false prophets than true prophets. False prophets will speak lies to preserve their own lives, income and/or position.
- The Almighty will bring false prophets to shame and utterly destroy them, along with all who listen to them.
