The Family of Abraham: The Keturites – Descendants of Abraham and Keturah
The Keturites are a Hebrew people descended from Abraham and his third wife, Keturah. Abraham married Keturah, a Canaanite woman, after the death of his first wife Sarah. They had issue:
- Six sons Zimran, Jokshan, Medan, Midian, Ishbak and Shuach.
Abraham gave gifts to his sons with Keturah and sent them away from Isaac east of the Land of Canaan. They eventually settled in the Arabian Peninsula, the Sinai Peninsula, Eastern Africa east of the Nile River, Persia and South Asia. The Keturites intermarried with their cousins, the Ishmaelites (descendants of Abraham and his second wife Hagar), to form a people collectively known as the Arabs. As descendants of Abraham, the Keturites/Arabs are still subject to the terms and conditions of the Abrahamic covenant (Genesis 12, Genesis 15, and Genesis 17).
